Position Summary

Reporting to the Buildng Manager, the Crew Chief is the head of their painting / maintenace team. Under direction, performs assigned painting, decorating, wall plastering and other basic trade duties throughout all Mala Properties sites according to policies, procedures, legislated codes and regulations, to support a functional reliable, safe and comfortable building environment.

Work Conditions

  • Full-Time position.
  • Regular buisiness hours; however must be available to work outside of regular hours upon critical situations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct general building repairs as required, including drywall repair, painting, ceiling tile replacement and basic carpentry.
  • Supervise and train staff.
  • Interfaces with the Property Manager and other Mala Properties staff in the delivery of service requests to meet contract service levels.
  • Conducts building inspections and performs required repairs as required.
  • Manages and maintains inventory of supplies and tools to enable efficient service delivery.
  • Maintain a clean workspace at all times.
  • Any other special projects and duties judged necessary to the success of the property operations.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Painter/Decorator or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 Years demonstrated knowledge and experience working as a professional painter or contractor.
  • 5 Years experience in finishing, maintenance & repair of commercial or institutional buildings and equipment. Residential experience preferred.
  • Thorough experience painting, staining, wallpaper and basic carpentry.
  • Able to function under pressure of emergency situations.
  • Able to conduct heavy physical lifting, frequent prolonged standing/walking, pushing/pulling, or moving/lifting heavy equipment/supplies, and ladder work.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS an asset
  • Strong communication skills in English and French are an asset, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately estimate and calculate material and equipment requirements.
  • Working knowledge of legislated safety requirements, codes, standards and regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for inter-site travel.
  • Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication, leadership, judgment, critical thinking, trouble shooting and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Availability to conduct additional work outside of regular business hours is preferred.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Experience with basic plumbing repairs would be an asset.
